Bloody vaginal discharge can be a symptom of cervical cancer; many infections are characterised by abnormal vaginal discharge.
Also, examination is needed if the flow appears to have odor. Consult your doctor if the flow turns reddish again or increases in amount. Usually, this reddish flow decreases in three weeks following the delivery and becomes brownish in color.

Gradually, it changes in color and amount. During the first 3-4 days, the flow is watery and heavy. Also referred to as lochia, this flow from the vagina is a normal course after delivery and can last for a few weeks as the body adjusts to a non-pregnant state.
