If the secretion changes radically in consistency, color or amount, it may be a sign of a serious sexually transmitted disease or just a common infection. Sexual excitement, emotional stress and ovulation increase the amount of normal secretion from the vagina. The amount and quality of this secretion varies much throughout the menstrual cycle due to estrogen circulating in the body.
