Normal urine doesn’t contain bacteria. When the urethra is squeezed shut, bacteria cannot get into the urethra from the meatus. Any bacteria that get into the urethra is washed off with the flow of urine. Women are more susceptible to UTIS, because their urethra is shorter.

The UTI can start from above entering the kidneys from the bloodstream; and from below entering the urethra and traveling upward. Urethra is the first to suffer from UTIs; then the bacteris go to the bladder, ureter and kidneys.
