Some common causes of urinary track infection could be bacteria from vaginal discharge or the penile wart viruses. Escherichia coli, the bacteria that normally lives in the colon gives rise to majority of UTIs in both men and women. Females are more susceptible to such disorders because the opening of their urethra is close to the anus and it is easy for bacteria to get in. Bacteria can enter the urethra during sexual intercourse, so it is important to wash genital area before the intercourse. Catheterization, especially long-termed, can also lead to UTIs.
