Pap Smear Technique

A pap smear technique of testing will detect vulvar vestibulitis, further diagnostics may require a cone biopsy. While a woman is lying on a table with her feet being in the stirrups, a doctor inserts speculum to open the vagina for a better view of the interior. A sample of tissue that consists of mucus and cells is then taken from the cervix with the help of a wooden or plastic spatula. A glass slide as well as a bottle is used to store the cells as they are being transported to a lab for a microscopic examination. Either negative or positive test results are handed to the patient.
