Pap Smear Positive

A pap smear positive result means there could be a chance of cervical cancer, a possible risk of miscarriage because of infection. Affirmative findings on a cervical cytology means that the pathologist is certain that there are unusual cells present in the specimen submitted to the lab. The degree of cell impairment and the number present determines the grade assigned to the reading. The grade classification ranges from lower risk atypical, mild or moderate dysplasia, to severe dysplasia, carcinoma in situ (localized), and invasive cancer. Treatment for the lowest grade may involve repeat tests, organic supplements, or chemicals. Higher grades generally require surgical procedures. A pap smear positive result means there could be a chance of cervical cancer, a possible risk of miscarriage because of infection.
