Pregnancy Pap Smear

A test usually performed during pregnancy, pap smear is used to detect conditions that would require cryotherapy, such as ASCUS. Like all reproductive women who have ever had sexual contacts, pregnant women should have Papanicolaou test to uncover changes in the cells that may indicate a medical problem including cervical cancer. This procedure as well as colposcopy is safe for the baby. A test usually performed during pregnancy, pap smear is used to detect conditions that would require cryotherapy, such as ASCUS.

If abnormal cells have been detected in the cervix, treatment is prescribed after delivery. For a greater accuracy of test results, avoid intercourse, douching, vaginal creams and medications 24 hours before the procedure. The test results are usually ready one to two weeks after the procedure.
