Abnormal HPV Pap Smear

Abnormal HPV Pap Smear

An abnormal hpv pap smear test may lead to a colposcopy and follow up pap smear testing. When a sample contains cervical cells that appear unusually developed (dysplastic) under a microscope, clinicians use the term dysplasia to describe this finding. Most commonly dysplastic cervical cells are caused by infection with Human Papilloma Virus and may progress to cervical cancer if left non-intervened. An abnormal hpv pap smear test may lead to a colposcopy and follow up pap smear testing.

Abnormal HPV Pap Smear

  -

Colposcopy, Pap Smear

Since a standard cytology is only a screening tool, a physician may require the patient to repeat testing in the case of mild dysplasia or order thin prep or DNA virus testing before treatment. In more advanced cases, further diagnostic tests such as colposcopy and cervical biopsy may be ordered. An abnormal hpv pap smear test may lead to a colposcopy and follow up pap smear testing.
