Usually performed after bleeding, pap smear tests will detect a wart which can be removed by cryosurgery. Cytology exams are best taken one to two weeks after menstruation is over and any vaginal flow has stopped-- approximately 12 - 14 days after the first day of your last menstrual period (LMP)—and not during the time of active menstrual flow. If a cytology test is taken during menstruation, abnormal cells may be concealed by the blood and debris of menstrual flow.
