In this case, the origin of inflammation has to be eliminated with Papanicolaou tests following. Bacterial and viral infections as well as sexually transmitted diseases may make the cells look inflamed. Positive test results indicate inflammation of the cells found in the cervix, which can be due to a variety of factors.
