“Squamous cells of undetermined significance” is used to describe the lowest grade of cytology interpretation for an abnormality. In the past physicians were challenged to treat based on these pathological findings. Today, additional tests such as HPV DNA test can aid in avoiding unnecessary surgeries and enhance early treatment successes.
