Ascus Gynecology

ASCUS gynecology may require a colposcopy but not a cone biopsy. Women should be tested yearly, especially those at risk for cancer of the cervix: becoming sexually active before the age of 18, whose mother took diethylstilbestrol during pregnancy, having a weak immune system, having a sexual partner who has or had cancer, or having had a sexually transmitted disease. ASCUS gynecology may require a colposcopy but not a cone biopsy.

Colposcopy, Cone Biopsy

A cervical cell goes through precancerous stages for months to years before becoming an invasive, malignant, carcinoma. Catching the disease at the precancerous stage can prevent the development of cervical cancer. Since the Pap smear was introduced 60 years ago, deaths from cancer of the cervix have decreased by 70%. ASCUS gynecology may require a colposcopy but not a cone biopsy.
