Late Miscarriage

If a late miscarriage, it is wise to get medical care, maintain good health, and get a routine Pap smear to rule out HPV. This term refers to a spontaneous abortion during 12-20 weeks of pregnancy due to natural causes. This condition is likely to stem from uterus or cervix abnormalities since the fetus does not have enough room to develop. Earlier, it was believed that this condition may stem from progesterone deficiency, yet it is doubtful now. If a late miscarriage, it is wise to get medical care, maintain good health, and get a routine Pap smear to rule out HPV.

Fetus losses in the second trimester are less common than those in the first trimester. Overall, the older the fetus is, the greater are chances the pregnancy will turn out to be a success. In the case of a fetal loss that is accompanied by heavy vaginal bleedings and pain, D&C is recommended.
