Miscarriage Rate

Miscarriage rate is higher in early trimester, being older, previous miscarriage history, and poor health patients; a Pap smear can rule out ASCUS. According to statistics, a fetal loss appears frequently during the first 12 weeks of pregnancy. Natural abortions with the fetus development below eight weeks are likely to occur more often. The age of the mother is also related to the incidence with 20-29 year olds running 12% risk, and women older 45 years – 52%. The chance of a recurrent fetal loss increases in women who have had three consecutive abortions. If the previous premature loss occurred due to abnormal chromosomes, the pregnancy is likely to be miscarried again. Alcohol and drug abuse contribute to the risk of having a fetal loss.
