Why Miscarriages Happen

It is difficult to say why miscarriages happen; a pap smear only determines the presence of HPV causing a venereal wart, but no test can predict the possibility of a miscarriage. Approximately one in six confirmed pregnancies miscarries. It usually happens before 12 weeks of pregnancy. In most cases, a spontaneous abortion is thought to be the nature’s way of de-selecting the embryos that are not going to develop healthily. This misfortune is due to chance alone, and, unfortunately, nothing can be done to prevent it. The main cause is a problem with the gene crossover at time of conception. Overall 15 percent of all clinically recognized pregnancies end in a loss.
