Preventing miscarriages on the early stage is rather difficult; a pap smear test and disorders related to HPV cannot cause a miscarriage. At this stage, the most useful test is an ultrasound scan. This bleeding is from the mother, and is not fetal blood. It is called a threatened abortion, because the pregnancy is threatened by the bleeding.
