It is normal to have a regular period after miscarriage even when urethritis or other infections are present, a colposcopy is not a diagnostic tool in this instance. The risk of spontaneous abortion decreases as pregnancy progresses. It is possible that as many as 50 percent of pregnancies miscarry before implantation in the womb occurs. Early after implantation, pregnancy loss rate is about 30 percent. Exercising, a minor fall, or sexual intercourse does not typically cause it. The fetus is well protected by the mother’s bones and muscle. Drinking alcohol and smoking tend to enhance the risks. In individual patients the cause of a miscarriage is not usually found.
