Any asbestos containing material, if disturbed, can cause asbestosis, mesothelioma and other related disorders.
Friable minerals are more dangerous than non-friable ones, because they are more likely to release fibers. The inhalation of these fibers may result in a serious damage of the lungs. They act like a slow bomb, which may later explode in cancerous tumors and inflammations.

Nowadays, chrysotile variety is gaining popularity among manufacturers and workers. This mineral is used in the production of composites, concrete, insulators, roof shingles, floor tiles and so forth. This type is less harmful than amphiboles, and so far no mesothelioma cases can be attributed to chrysotile fibers.
