This disorder is caused by some strains of Human papillomavirus, which is a double-stranded, circular, supercoiled DNA virus. More than 150 types of HPV have been identified. The majority of them are harmless, but some are very dangerous. Certain types tend to occur at particular anatomic sites. The primary clinical manifestation of the disease include common type, genital type, flat, deep palmoplantar type (myrmecia), focal epithelial hyperplasia, and plantar cysts. The diagnosis is made primarily on the basis of clinical findings. There are no cure against Human Papillomavirus available yet; all methods of treatment are aimed at symptoms only.
