Human Papillomavirus Infection

Human papillomavirus infection or HPV is detected by a pap smear. Most women do not develop cervical cancer even though they have been exposed and have more than one type of HPV, including several “high-risk” types. The majority of cervical cancer cases are in women who have not had a pap smear in five or more years. Human papillomavirus infection or HPV is detected by a pap smear.

Most men will not have any symptoms or health risks such as cancer with the “high-risk” types of HPV. It is the cervix in women that needs to be watched or monitored. With monitoring, the cell changes are found and treated before progressing to cancer. Human papillomavirus infection or HPV is detected by a pap smear.
