There are about 150 strains of HUman Papillomavirus; the majority of them are harmless, but about 30 strains are sexually transmitter and very dangerous. In many women, infection with certain types of Human papilloma virus is the first step in the progression from a normal cervix to cervical cancer. This is the main cause of cervical cancer. It induces the growth of abnormal cells that can become malignant.
