The infection of hpv, human papilloma virus, is a large group of strains that include the common wart, plantar wart and vaginal or penile wart. Condoms are not protection against infection. Some doctors think it is less contagious than the genital warts you can see. Little is known about subclinical HPV and how contagious it is. Not all warts are visible to the naked eye, and are termed subclinical. When warts are present the HPV infection is considered active, when the warts are gone the infection is latent in the skin cells - it may or may not be contagious at this time.
