Human Papilloma virus (hpv) is the only known cause of warts--vaginal wart or genital wart. There are about 30 types of viruses that are sexually transmitted. It is highly contagious. The amount of time between acquisition of the disease and having visible symptoms can range from weeks to months to years. Some strains of the viruses are related to genital cancers.
