The human papillo virus (HPV), includes the vaginal wart virus and is also known as human papilloma virus. HPV is one of the most common causes of sexually transmitted infection in the world. The germ can be rather dangerous, since it is blamed for almost all cases of cervical cancer in women. In many cases, an infected person may be unaware of the disease, as there can be no overt symptoms. There are over 90 strains of the virus, each having its own characteristics. About 30 of them are associated with growths in the genital area. HPV can grow on the cervix, vagina, vulva, urethra and the anus. Monogamy, using condoms (condoms offer very little protection), and abstinence are the ways of prevention.
