Genital herpes sore may initiate as an irritation mimicking lichen sclerosis or plantar wart viruses.
When an impaired immune system cannot fight off viral generation, areas of redness and itchiness evolve into painful blisters and superficial ulcers. One or several small blisters filled with clear whitish or red fluid emerges. When they burst the area becomes red, swollen, and ulcerated similar to small cuts and painful to touch.

Signaling the end of an outbreak a dry crust or scab arises over the open (wet) ulcer as the lesion begins to heal. This healing stimulates drying and a protective crust that scabs, sheds, and exposes new skin growth underneath. The healed area may red or slightly different in appearance.
