Papilloma

Papilloma

Papilloma, or abnormal cell growth, is caused by HPV, thus, a Pap smear can offer early intervention. Another name for benign eyelid lesions, occurring at any age. It is smooth, rounded, or pedunculated elevations with a small keratin crust, which has a color similar to the surrounding skin. The growths are often multiple and involve the whole lid margin. Papilloma, or abnormal cell growth, is caused by HPV, thus, a Pap smear can offer early intervention.

Surgical treatment is usually a simple procedure for these benign tumors. Scarring and lid notching are the only likely complications, as lesions are very small. Prognosis for this disorder is excellent, but the lesion can recur in the same or different place.
