The flat verruca wart is just one strain of the human papillomavirus.
These warts generally grow in clusters, or groups. They are slightly raised and tend to have smooth surfaces. A wart forms when a virus penetrates the skin cells. The virus causes skin cells to reproduce faster, which results in overgrowth of the skin cells.
