This is a nonmalignant skin growth that appears within 1-8 months after HPV enters the skin through breaks and cuts. The virus is often acquired in public places such as showers and locker rooms when a person is walking barefoot. To prevent the condition, it is recommended to wear thongs in warm moist places. Cures include using over-the-counter drugs with acids and salicylic acid patches that dissolve the abnormal cells.
