Colposcopy Side Effects
With sugical treatments with colposcopy, side effects may be potential miscarriage or recurring cervical dysplasia.
The procedure is performed by a specially trained doctor (colposcopist) in a clinic. The examination is quick (10-20 minutes) and safe. The doctor inserts a speculum into the vagina to hold it open and looks at the cervix through a large microscope (colposcope).

After this procedure the biopsy may be necessary for further analysis. It may cause light bleeding, dark discharge, and pain for several days. Serious complications, such as weakening or open cervix, which lead to miscarriages are possible only after biopsy.
