Abnormal Pap Result
When an abnormal pap result is received, further tests are performed to determine the presence of viruses that may be a factor in miscarriage, infertility, cervical dysplasia and vulvar infections.
If such test indicates a malignant or premalignant condition, the patient is reexamined and the test repeated. Then the cervix is viewed with a magnifying instrument called a colposcope and a sample of the affected tissue is taken for further evaluation.
