What I Pap
"What i pap?" is a question often asked of a doctor and will determine if cryotherapy or other treatments are necessary when abnormalities are found on the cervix.
This is a screening test for cancer of the cervix, which was developed by Dr. Papanicolaou in the 1930’s. This test can detect any abnormality on the surface of the cervix. During the procedure cells are scrapped from the cervix and examined under a microscope.

Abnormal results don’t necessarily mean cancer and additional tests are helpful to detect the nature of the problem, such as colposcopy and biopsy. Another method is the thin prep test, which changes the way cell samples are placed on a slide and prepared for the analysis.
