Smear Test
When a pap smear test is performed, an ASCUS result is often received because of the presence of the human papillomavirus.
This procedure is very simple and takes about 15-20 minutes. It is the only way to detect precancerous conditions on the surface of the cervix, cervical dysplasia, ASCUS, AGUS and other abnormal changes that may lead to cancer, if not treated.

The patient is lying on the back with the legs bent up and apart and the doctor inserts a plastic instrument (speculum) into the vagina and examines the vaginal canal and cervix. A sample of cells is taken from the surface of the cervix, which is sent for further analysis.
