Incompetent Cervix
An incompetent cervix may result from surgery for an ASCUS pap smear.
Premature delivery when pregnant is linked to the narrow outer end of the uterus or the cervical area. If this opening has the inability to remain closed for the duration of a pregnancy, a premature birth will occur. A weakening of the cervical lining usually causes this.

Incompetent Cervix -

This occurs if there is damage to the connective tissue during a previous pregnancy, or surgery for cervical dysplasia removal. Some examples of these surgeries or procedures are: a LEEP, cone biopsy, or ECC. All of these can involve damage to the cervical lining.
