Dilated Cervix
A dilated cervix may be necessary when treating human papilloma virus conditions such as ASCUS.
"D&C" is conducted if a Pap smear test doesn't clearly indicate whether abnormalities are caused by problem in the cervix or in the endometrium. During the procedure the doctor enlarges the cervix and scrapes remove a sample of the tissue for analysis.
