Cervix Dilation
Cervix dilation is performed with a D&E, and is not associated with lichen sclerosis, or a routine pap smear.
In general it is a very safe procedure and has been performed for many years. After it complications are possible: bleeding or (in rare cases) perforation of the uterus. The procedure can be performed in the office with or without anesthesia.

During the procedure the physitian enlarges the vagina and scrapes the inside of the uterus to remove tissue for analysis. "D&C" is conducted if a Pap smear test doesn't clearly indicate whether abnormalities are caused by problem in the vagina or in the endometrium.
