A cervical cancer fact is that HPV causes a benign condyloma or wart.
There is no absolute proof that carcinomas of the cervix are caused by the HPV virus. However, HPV was found in 80% of cervix carcinomas. The HIV virus is also a contributor to carcinomas of the cervix. This shows it is possible that elimination of these cells is autoimmune related.

Because HPV and HIV are correlated with carcinomas of the cervix, this may be why there is a rate of recurrence. One can be HPV or HIV positive, and not get symptoms, but those whom do, tend to have a harder time eliminating symptoms, due to a weak immune system.
